ABSTRACT:

The study investigated the impact of inclusive education practice on academic achievement and social integration of children with learning disabilities in primary schools in Oyo State. Descriptive research design of the “ex-post facto” type was adopted for the study. The population of the study consisted of all the 27 public primary schools in Afijio Local Government Area of Oyo State, Nigeria, which served as a case study for this work. 10 public primary schools were randomly selected for the study. 15 students were selected from each school to make 150 samples. A self-designed questionnaire was developed. The instrument was validated and the reliability coefficient of 0.87 was obtained. Three research questions guided the study. Regression analysis, t-test and Pearson Product Correlation Coefficient (PPMC) were used to analyze the data collected. Findings revealed that pupils’ disability status predicted academic performance; that pupils’ disability status contributed significantly to the prediction of academic performance and that there is significant relationship between pupils’ disability status and academic performance of pupils who are learning disabled at the primary school level. Based on the findings, it was recommended, among others, that there should be proper funding of inclusive education programs by making adequate provision for supportive personnel.
